NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma senior Ryan Sirman, along with Jess Wallace of Colorado, was named November's Big 12 Golfer of the Month, Wednesday. Sirman is the first Sooner on the men's golf squad to earn the honor since junior Riley Pumphrey earned the honors his freshman year of the 2008-09 season.
Sirman led the Sooners at the Gifford Collegiate Championship this month to claim an eighth place finish at the 12-team tournament. OU was able to finish strong thanks to Sirman's five birdie, 1-under-par final round. Sirman carded a 6-over-par for the tournament and finished tied for 16th individually with a score of 210.
"Ryan is definitely a very hard worker, one of the hardest on the team," said head coach Ryan Hybl. "Not just on the course, but in the classroom as well. He works hard at everything he does. He's a great leader and is very deserving of the honor."
The senior from Tyler, Texas, cards a 72.8 stroke average for the month of November.
OU's Ellen Mueller of the women's golf team was also awarded the Big 12 Golfer of the Month honor this past October.
On the year, six players, three men and three women, have won the award. Of those six, two awards have gone to OU. Colorado has also received Big 12 honors twice, while Kansas and Oklahoma State have won the award once.
Sirman and the Sooners return to regular season play Feb. 14-15 at the Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
