Golf Team in Ardmore for The Maxwell
May 12, 2006

NORMAN, Okla. The Big 12 champion University of Oklahoma men’s golf team takes the short trip down I-35 this weekend, May 13-14, for the 15th annual Perry Maxwell Intercollegiate Invitational at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.

The Maxwell, co-hosted by OU and Oklahoma State, marks the team’s final tune-up before NCAA Regionals.

Competing for the Sooners will be Big 12 runner-up Brodie Flanders, seniors Justin Fraley and Shawn LaFontaine, junior Nick Sheedy and sophomore Phillip Bryan.

Flanders, LaFontaine and Bryan each recorded career-best finishes at the Big 12 Championships, April 24-25, at Southern Hills in Tulsa.

Flanders, a native of Petitcodiac, New Brunswick, and LaFontaine, from Cobourg, Ontario, shared the first-round lead after a pair of one-under 69s.  LaFontaine finished in a tie for ninth, while Flanders came two strokes short of matching Texas’ Matt Rosenfeld for medalist honors.

Bryan, an Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, turned in his highest finish as a Sooner, firing consecutive 71s in the final two rounds to finish in a tie for 11th place.

Fraley, who tied for fifth at the 2005 Big 12 Championships, finished in a tie for 14th.

All five Sooners finished in the top 15 individually, setting a tournament record.
