  Head Coach Patty Gasso

On the team’s loss in game one of the doubleheader:
“She [Caralisa Connell] moved the ball around. I know that we were chasing things out of the zone and really helping her by us chasing pitches. But I can’t use that as an excuse. Their team was good. That’s a good team right there. They fight hard. They make plays. They swing it. They’re just a good, all-around fundamental team and they came ready to play, and the Sooners just came out flat. We just started to press a little bit. They jumped on Keilani [Ricketts] one inning. We had opportunities early in the game. We made some base running mistakes that really hurt us and took some momentum away from us. I just felt like were just weren’t completely ready to compete today, and when you go up against a team like Louisville, you’ll get beat, and we did. They deserved to win that game. No question about it.”

On what was different in game two:
“A different approach in the way of heart and fight. I think a great example is the last two bats of the game – Jessica Vest and Brianna Turang. When we fight like that, we are a tough team to beat. They had focus and the goal one they answered on Michelle [Gascoigne] was to come back and answer back and show the character of who we are. Most other teams could come out and say, “Oh, it’s not our day.” But we came back with a vengeance, and they needed to, or else we were starting to waste the body of work we had put together up to this point. Today a split doesn’t kill us. What I will walk away with is the response in game two and lessons learned from game one.”

On the team’s mindset after the first game:
“We just talked about having a short memory and getting after it the second time. Just coming and playing Sooner softball from the beginning. The first game we kind of waited around a little bit too long, and in the second game we wanted to come out right away firing on all cylinders.”

On what she was trying to do individually:
“Today I was using my defense a lot, and they were making really great plays. I was just trying to keep us in the game and keep rolling it to my defense or popping it up if I wasn’t getting my strikeouts and get us back in there ready to score.”

On tomorrow’s game:
“I think it gives us a lot of momentum going into tomorrow. It is a three-game series, and we want to win it just like any other one, so just really coming out tomorrow and finishing the job.”
