NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team saw its three-game winning streak against Big 12 opponents come to end Tuesday to Baylor, 3-1, in Waco, Texas. The Sooners fell to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference while the Bears improved to 6-6 and 2-4 in the Big 12.
OU took the lead in the first half when sophomore Logan Womack scored her 11th goal of the year. Womack, who was assisted by junior Krissy Dawson after beating the defense, added to her school record for number of goals in a season.
In the second half, the Sooners, clinging to a 1-0 lead, lost two starters when junior midfielder Jennifer Enos and freshman goalkeeper Catherine Wade left with injuries. Baylor responded with three goals, including two within a span of 103 seconds in the last five minutes of action. Ryan Lee (two goals) led the offense for the Bears.
Entering to the match, Oklahoma had allowed just four goals all season and was second in the nation in scoring defense (0.36 goals allowed per game).
"We played as well as we possibly could in the first half but we missed on a lot of scoring opportunities," said Head Coach Randy Evans. "You can't do that against a talented conference team on the road. It'll come back to haunt you and that's exactly what happened to us tonight."
Oklahoma returns home to face Iowa State on Friday at 7 p.m. in a Big 12 soccer game. The Sooners will also host national power Nebraska on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Huskers were No. 5 in the country in last week's poll.
