NORMAN, Okla. -- Week No. 1 is in the books for the OU soccer team and the Sooners are 2-0 after recording a pair of 3-0 victories at home over Missouri State and Sam Houston State.

The Sooners four-game home stand concludes this weekend against a pair of in-state rivals. OU will host Oral Roberts on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.  On Sunday night, the Sooners welcome Tulsa for a 7 p.m. showdown.

The Sooners held a morning practice session on Aug. 26 after a day off on Tuesday and OU Head Coach Nicole Nelson talked again about how the offense has put together some positive things in the attack and how the defense has been solid in not allowing a goal in three games, including the preseason.

However, Nelson is quick to point out that both areas still have room to improve and that has been the focus of practice this week.

While OU shot the ball 45 times in the two games with 21 on goal, plenty of other scoring opportunities were missed.  In addition, freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire has played solid in goal in leading the defense, and the unit continues to improve day after day.

SoonerSports.com caught up with coach Nelson on Wednesday to discuss the opening weekend, ORU and Tulsa, the loss of Sage Coralli (ACL) and the play of Devonshire and the defense.  Click the video links above to view footage from Wednesday's practice.
