NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women’s golf team remains tied for seventh place in the 12-team “Mo”Morial Invitational after shooting a second-round 302 (+14) Monday at the Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. The Sooners, who trail frontrunner Texas by 28 shots, shaved 13 strokes off Sunday’s first-round performance.

The Sooners were led by sophomore Chirapat “Ja” Jao-Janavil, who climbed her way from 20th to ninth place after turning in a second-round 71 (-1), the 68-player field’s second best score of the day. Jao-Javanil recorded three birdies and 13 pars on the day and is at 149 (+5) with one round remaining.

Junior college transfer Jacki Marshall, who began the day in 37th place, rocketed up the leaderboard thanks to her 1-over-par 73.  Marshall played her final 10 holes at 1 under par and is tied for 19th place at 153 (+9).

Tied with Marshall in 19th place is teammate Anne-Catherine Tanguay. The sophomore registered three birdies Monday en route to a second-round 75 (+3).

“The girls definitely played better today,” said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. “I think the first tournament jitters were almost gone and the results showed it. Ja played great; very consistent. Jacki also played well. She made a lot of pars and was able to come back when she made some bogeys. Anne-Catherine played solid for us as well, so we are all looking forward to the final round tomorrow.”

Senior Brooke Collins shot a second-round 83 (+11) and stands in 58th place with a total score of 165 (+21). Sophomore transfer Jade Staggs carded an 87 (+15) Monday and is tied for 63rd place with a two-round total of 166 (+22).

Junior Taylor Schmidt, who is competing as an individual for the Sooners, collected birdies on holes 1, 6, 8 and 18 Monday as she shot a 5-over 77. Schmidt stood at 7 over par through her first eight holes before rebounding to shoot 2 under on her last 10 holes. She is tied for 28th place with a two-round total of 155 (+11).

The Sooners will tee off with a shotgun start on Tuesday morning at 8:30 in the “Mo”Morial final round. Live stats will be available at Golfstat.com.
