Women's Basketball Blows Out San Diego, 84-39

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma womens basketball team overcame a sluggish first half start to defeat the University of San Diego, 84-39, Tuesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center. OU used a 19-4 run to close the first half and a 32-4 run to open the second half to blow the game open.

True freshman Jadrea Seeley (Bethel, Okla.) led the Sooners with a career high 18 points, while sophomore LaNeishea Caufield (Ada, Okla.) and senior Phylesha Whaley (Slaton, Texas) netted 16 points a piece. Sophomore Stacey Dales (Brockville, Ontario, Canada) added nine points and a career high 11 assists to the effort.

For the game, OU outrebounded San Diego, 50-23. The Sooners 50 boards equals their season best performance on the glass. Junior Desiree Taylor (Richardson, Texas) led the team in rebounds with 10, tying her career best,. Seven of Taylors rebounds came from the offensive end.

After being down by as many as five points in the first half, the Sooners stepped up their defense and connected on back-to-back layups by Seeley and Sunny Hardeman and a made jumper Seeley to claim control of the game, 13-11, with 15:15 to play before intermission.

Oklahoma allowed only 12 San Diego points in the second half, which ties a team record for fewest points allowed in a half. Oklahomas defense held the Torores to a paltry 21 percent from the field in the second half and 31 percent for the game. Tonight was the eight-straight game that OU hit 50 percent or better from the field (33-66). The Sooners 17 steals also matched a season best. San Diego established six opponents lows against the Sooners: fewest points (39), field goals made (16), field goal percentage (.314), three pointer made (1), three-point percentage (.091) and assists (7).

OU returns to action when top-ranked Connecticut (7-0) comes to Norman on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. Due to the University of Oklahomas holiday hours the ticket office will be providing additional outlets for you to purchase your Oklahoma-Connecticut womens basketball game tickets for Dec. 29th.
