Oklahoma Will Conclude Fall Season in Las Vegas
The No. 8 ranked (Golfstat) University of Oklahoma women’s golf team will wrap up their fall season at the Las Vegas Founders Women’s Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 10-12. The Sooners are aiming for their third straight victory after winning the Kent Youel Invitational and the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate in their last two outings.
The three-day event will be held at the 6,194-yard, par-72 Anthem Country Club.
Competing for the Sooners will be Lisa Meldrum, Hope Edge, Emily Milberger, Amparo Gala and Jaclyn Stelzer. The 15-team field includes BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Hawaii, Kent State, Missouri, Nevada-Reno, No. 7 New Mexico, No. 8 Oklahoma, San Diego State, San Jose State, Tennessee, UC-Irvine and No. 25 UNLV.
Sooners Win Second Straight Tournament
OU took first place honors at the Kent Youel Invitational (Nov.4-5) in Oahu, Hawaii, after recording a final-round 293. It marked the Sooners second straight victory after winning the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate in Oct. OU’s three-round total of 889 was two strokes better than No. 8 Washington, who finished in second place.
Senior Lisa Meldrum continued her hot streak after finishing tied for second with 215 total strokes. Meldrum’s final-round 69 (-3) was the lowest of any individual round in the tournament. Junior Emily Milberger tied for fifth with a total of 222, after recording a season-low 72 in the final round. Sophomore Amparo Gala shot a 76 (+4) for three consecutive rounds and tied for 21st. Finishing one stroke behind Gala was senior Hope Edge, who tied for 25th. Rounding out the Sooner squad was freshman Jaclyn Stelzer, who tied for 40th with a 233.
