PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania - Numerous members of the Sooner men's and women's track and field teams were in action today at the 105th Penn Relays and the 90th edition of the Drake Relays. Due to inclement weather many the events at the Penn Relays were cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow when they are slated to get underway at 7 a.m.

In Philadelphia, Pa. senior Omar Brown and sophomore Michael Blackwood along with freshmen Ernest Lewis and Moses Washington showed they are poised to bring the 4x400m-relay title home to Norman since OU won the event two years ago. The quartet finished with the quickest time in their heat 3:12.96. Senior Angie Prescott, junior Staneshia Bell, sophomore Corrie Hussar and newcomer Kelly O'Rourke comprised the women's distance medley relay squad which turned in a time of 12:03.71 to finish 19th.

In Des Moines, Iowa Sooner distance runners Sarah Harvey and Matt Roman competed in the invitational 10000m. Harvey, a junior on this years squad, finished the event with the quickest time of anyone this season, 37:48.89, to place 28th. Also a junior, Roman posted the fasted time in his three years at Oklahoma, 33:23.73, to finish 24th.

The Penn Relays conclude tomorrow with the men's and women's 4x400m and sprint medley relay teams in action. Now in its ninth decade, the Drake Relays will be aiming for its 34th straight sellout in the 18,000 seat Drake Stadium-the longest streak in U.S. Track history. The Sooners will also be hosting their final home meet of the 1999 outdoor season tomorrow. The Oklahoma Outdoor will begin at 11 a.m. with field events, while running events are set to begin at 1 p.m.
