NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 3 Oklahoma men's gymastics team (11-1) will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take part in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference Championships on Friday-Saturday, March 22-23. The Sooners will be competing against Air Force, California, Nebraska, Stanford and UC Santa Barbara at 8 p.m. CST on Friday in the team event and on 2 p.m. Saturday in the individual event finals.
"The conference championship has been one of our goals from the beginning of the season," said OU head coach Mark Williams. "We are aiming to win our fourth in a row this year, and I think our toughest competitors will be Stanford and California."
The Sooners' only loss of the season came at the hands of the Cardinal, a 214.700 to 214.550 decision in California. OU has defeated No. 13 Nebraska (2-9) three times and No. 10 Stanford (8-9) and No. 18 Air Force (2-14) once this season. Friday will be the first time the Sooners face No. 14 UC Santa Barbara (4-5) and No. 7 California (11-3).
"We are hoping we come away with several individual champions," added Williams. "We will continue our 'tradition of excellence' in the postseason and hope to come out of the conference championships with our best ranking before competing in nationals."
