Four Gymnasts Named to Academic All-Big 12 Team

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team placed four members on the 2006 Academic All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team released today.

Kristen Cox, Tara Anderson and Brittney Koncak-Schumann were all named to the first team.  Anderson and Koncak-Schumann were both nominated with a 4.00 grade point average.  

Junior Tiffany Willin of Fort Myers, Fla., was named to the second team.  

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league gymnastics squad consisted of 14 first team members combined with four on the second team.  First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

Nebraska will host the Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.  Iowa State, Missouri and Oklahoma will join the Huskers in the quest for the 2006 title. NU is the defending conference champion and owns a league-leading seven crowns (1997-99, 2001-03, '05).  Iowa State (2001) and Oklahoma have each earned one (2004).
