Sooners Win Three on Day Two

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Oklahoma women’s tennis finished with a combined 3-5 record Saturday on day two of the Eck Tennis Classic at the University of Notre Dame.

Whitney Wofford claimed OU’s only win in singles action on day two.  The sophomore transfer defeated Katherine White of Notre Dame in the tiebreaker set, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

OU lost three singles matches to Notre Dame opponents Saturday.  Nicole Long fell to Jennifer Kellner, 6-2, 7-5, Peta Maree Lancaster lost to Chrissie McGaffigan, 6-1, 6-1, and Mia Lancaster lost to Britney Sanders, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

OU played four doubles matches Saturday.  The Sooners lost two matches to Notre Dame and won two against Wake Forest. 

Wofford teamed with Mia Lancaster to beat Cutillo and Zarina of Wake Forest, 8-4, while Long and Peta Maree Lancaster defeated Wake Forest’s Siegler and Bercyte, 8-5.

OU head coach David Mullins switched up the doubles teams for the other matches Saturday.  The Lancaster sisters lost to White and Sanders of Notre Dame, 8-2, while Wofford and Long fell to Notre Dame’s Kellner and McGaffigan, 8-3.
