NORMAN, Okla. In its first tournament of the fall season, the University of Oklahoma women's golf team is in sixth place at the NCAA Fall Preview in Auburn, Ala., after shooting a 296 (+8) in first-round action today. The Sooners trail first-place Auburn by 10 strokes.
The 18-team field is playing at the 6,215-yard, par-72 Grand National Lake Course and is composed of 17 nationally ranked teams, including the top 11 in the country.
Senior Lisa Meldrum is in fourth place and trails the leader (Brittany Lang, Duke) by only two strokes after shooting a first-round 69 (-3). Senior Hope Edge recorded a 72 (E) and is currently tied for 11th. Junior Emily Milberger is tied for 46th after a round of 77(+5) while sophomore Amparo Gala is one stroke behind Milberger and tied for 53rd. Sophomore Cathryn Uselton is tied for 83rd after carding an 83 (+11).
The Sooners will resume play at 8 a.m., Saturday and the tournament concludes Sunday.
