NORMAN, Okla. - The 20th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a third-round of 289 to finish in fifth place at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R. The Sooners finished with an overall score of 879 (+15) and 18 shots behind team champion No. 3 Georgia Tech. Once again OU finished ahead of several highly-ranked teams including No. 10 Wake Forest, No. 12 North Carolina State, No. 15 East Tennessee State, No. 18 Duke and No. 21 Northwestern.

"Overall I was pleased with our performance and I thought our team showed a lot of heart today," said OU Head Coach Jim Ragan. "We began today's round on some fairly difficult holes which made for a rough start, but the team fought back and made up some ground to keep us in the tournament."

OU had two individuals place in the top 15. Leading the way for the Sooners was junior Cody Freeman, who shot a final-round 71 to tie for fifth place overall with a final score of 216 (E). It was Freeman's second top-five finish of the year. Freshman Martin Flores continued his consistent play tying for 15th after shooting his third-straight round of 73 for a final score of 219 (+3).

"I thought Cody Freeman did an outstanding job today," said Ragan. "There was potentially 10 to 15 All-Americans in this field and to finish as high as fifth really shows what kind of player Cody is."

One shot behind Flores was OU sophomore Matt Cohn, who fired his second-straight 71 to tie for 22nd with a final score of 220 (+4). Sophomore John Kidwell shot a third-round 74 to finish tied for 40th and junior J.D. Robertson rounded out the scores for Oklahoma posting a third-round 77 to tie for 52nd.

OU heads back to the mainland to compete in the Cleveland Golf Classic at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Villiage, Calif. on March 5-6.
