NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma soccer team recorded school records in shots and shots on goal but managed just a 2-2 tie with LSU in front of 197 fans at the Norman North Soccer Complex today.

The Sooners dominated play, registering 51 shots to LSUs nine and 23 shots on goal to the Tigers five. Oklahoma, which also outshot LSU in the two overtime sessions by a staggering 15-0 margin, was not able to capitalize on its scoring opportunities.

I dont think Ive ever been associated with a game where one team has 51 shots, said Sooner head coach Randy Evans. And I dont think Ive been in a game where a team dominates like we did and did not sew up the victory. Not only did we have every opportunity to win, but we also limited their scoring chances. We are building confidence with every game, but this was nothing but frustrating. But thats been our Achilles heel all year. Weve created opportunities we just havent finished.

OU jumped in front at the 17:45 mark on Heather Martinellis third goal of the year and second in two games. LSU scored the next two goals, the first at the 19:40 mark off a designed play on a free kick by Katie Thomas. Just more than 10 minutes later, Ashley Mitnick beat OU starting goalkeeper Ayn Toppin on a penalty kick.

The Sooners knotted the score at 2-2 on defender Christen Secrests first-career goal at the 40:10 mark, but then neither team scored in the final 79-plus minutes.

Jana Cunningham, who replaced Toppin in goal at halftime after the junior recorded two saves, had to make just one save in the final 75 minutes of play. Bryna Warlock made four saves in the first half for LSU before being relieved by Bonnie Otillio. Otillio stayed busy by stopping 17 Sooner shots after halftime.

Jonette Coquat attempted 10 shots (one more than the entire LSU team) and was followed in the category by teammates Heather Martinelli (nine) and Shannon Wing and Jamie Farmer (eight each).

Evans, who noted after the game that he is thrilled with the way his team is developing, will take the 2-8-1 Sooners to Missouri and Kansas for games next Friday and Sunday, respectively.
