NORMAN, Okla. - The 21st-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team takes on Wichita State at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
The Sooners (7-1) have won five-straight matches going into Sunday's showdown with the Shockers and look to remain unbeaten at home after defeating five teams ranked in the ITA top 50. That streak includes wins over, then, No. 50 Arkansas, No. 20 Alabama, No. 32 Oklahoma State, No. 43 Minnesota and No. 48 Indiana.
OU goes into Sunday's match ranked in the top 25 for the first time since the 2007 season. In addition to the Sooners lofty ranking, OU possesses three singles players ranked in the ITA top 75. Senior Andrei Daescu leads the way at No. 17. Freshman Costin Paval jumped 18 spots to No. 62 and junior Ionut Beleleu checks in at No. 74.
The Shockers (6-2) host Chicago-Illinois Saturday before traveling to Norman Sunday. Wichita State is led by redshirt freshman Sven Kasper. Kasper was recently named the Missouri Valley Conference tennis athlete of the week.
Sundays match is OU's last home contest before the Sooners travel to the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
