NORMAN, Okla. –  The University of Oklahoma women’s tennis team will split between two tournaments this weekend, four players will play in both the 2010 ITA Central Region Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., and the KU Fall Tournament in Lawrence, Kan.

“This is the first weekend where we have had all eight girls competing at the same time,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “I believe that we are ready for our events this weekend before our last event of the fall at Illinois in a couple of weeks. Everyone has played at least three matches leading up to this weekend and we have had some very productive days on the practice courts these last couple of weeks.”

Senior, and 69th-ranked, Ana-Maria Constantinescu will look to defend both the doubles and singles Central Regional titles from last fall.  Constantinescu defeated Arkansas’ Kate Lukomskaya to win the singles championship and UA’s Claudine Paulson and Anouk Tigu with partner Teona Tsertsvadze for the doubles title on Oct. 25, 2009 in Norman.

Senior Maria Kalashnikova and freshmen Whitney Ritchie and Alice Radu will join Constantinescu in Fayetteville to represent OU at the championships.  The tournament will feature the region’s best players spanning over 29 schools. Main draw competition will begin Friday morning with doubles and singles.

“This will be Alice and Whitney’s first regional and Maria did not play in it last year due to sickness, so in many ways it will be a new experience for all three girls,” Mullins said. “Our region continues to get stronger each year and I know that Ana-Maria is excited to try and defend her singles and doubles titles from last year.”

Tara Eckel, Mia Lancaster, Peta Maree Lancaster and Brittany Parks will head to Lawrence for the KU tournament, also beginning on Friday.  The Sooners will compete against players from Kansas, Colorado, Kansas State, Iowa, Indiana, Wichita State, UMKC and Armstrong Atlantic.
