AMES, Iowa - Senior Bambi Carson won the shot put title at the ISU Qualifier with a season best of 53-3 on Friday. The mark beat the NCAA automatic qualifying standard, marked a career best for Carson and established a new school record, changing a record that had stood since 1981.

Senior Joey Scott lowered his career best mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record 7.88. Other Sooners who posted NCAA provisional marks on Friday included Jimyria Hicks in the 200, Leslie Dunlap in the pole vault, Janel Hayes in the long jump, Ernest Lewis and LaBoris Bean in the 400 and the men's 1600-meter relay composed of Ernest Lewis, Raoul Harvey, Moses Washington and Bean. Their time of 3:06.98 pushed the Sooner quartet to fourth in the country, virtually assuring the Sooners a trip to next weekend's NCAA Indoor Championship.

Sooners who won their events included Dunlap, who improved her provisional mark to 12-10.75, and Sand Swaby, who won the high jump with a career-best jump of 5-9.25.

The provisional marks by Hicks and Bean were their first of the season. Scott and Hayes both dropped their previously posted NCAA provisional marks.

For Hayes, her jump of 20-4.25 marked the third time this season for her to change the school record in the long jump. For Scott, it was the second consecutive week for him to change the 60-meter hurdles.

Three Sooners will travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the final Qualifier Meet on Saturday. The Sooners will learn early next week which student-athletes will be invited to the NCAA Indoor Track Meet.
