NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma womens soccer team scored three goals in the second half Friday night to hand Colorado a 4-2 loss in front of 165 fans at the Norman North Soccer Complex. OU improved to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12 Conference while the Buffaloes fell to 8-4 and 1-2. CU also dropped to 5-21 in all-time road matches.

The Sooners got on the scoreboard first at the 5:02 mark when freshman Heather Martinelli scored her second goal of the year. Colorado responded with back-to-back goals at the 25:53 and 37:45 marks to take a 2-1 advantage into intermission.

Oklahoma tied the game at 2-2 on an own goal off Colorados Kendall Pata at the 49:56 mark. The Sooners game-winning shot came from freshman midfielder Jennifer Enos, who gathered the rebound off Brianne Strothers blocked shot and scored at the 80:29 mark for her first collegiate goal.

I was just happy to be in the right place at the right time, said Enos. We worked hard and played well the entire game. We picked up our communication in the second half and that is one of the things that Coach Evans has been talking to us about all season.

The final goal of the evening was recorded by OU sophomore Jonette Coquat. Coquat, who leads the team in goals scored, netted her fourth of the year when her shot ricocheted off the cross bar and into the net at the 84:16 mark.

I am thrilled that the girls can get this kind of reward after working so hard all game long, said Evans. We knew it would be tough going into the Big 12. They just came out with a lot of confidence and started believing that they could win.

Earning the victory for the Sooners in net was freshman goalkeeper Jana Cunningham (1-2, 1-1), who relieved starter Ayn Toppin at the beginning of the second half. As a team, Oklahoma outshot the Buffaloes 22-10 and held CU to only three shots in the second half. OU was led by Coquats five shots and Martinellis four.

Oklahoma steps out of conference play Sunday when it hosts LSU at 1 p.m.
