NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma golfer Lisa Meldrum has been honored as the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for September, the conference office announced Wednesday. The honor came the same day her No. 7-ranked (Golfweek) Sooner team captured the Price's Give Em Five Intercollegiate tournament title in Las Cruces, N.M. Meldrum led the team and finished tied for second with a 219 (+3).
In the month of September, Meldrum competed in two tournaments and placed in the top two in both of them. The senior from Montreal, Quebec, finished second at the NCAA Fall Preview (Sept. 12-14) with a two-under par 214, three strokes behind the individual champion. Oklahoma finished fourth as a team in the tournament which included 17-nationally-ranked teams, including the top 11. At the Lady Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 27-28), Meldrum tied for first, but lost in a three-way, two-hole playoff. Meldrum's two-over-par 218 helped OU to a fourth-place finish.
Meldrum is averaging a team-low 72.3 strokes per round after three tournaments. Meldrum and the Sooners will return to action Nov. 4-5 at the Hawaii Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii.
