Men's Tennis Completes Fall Opener

NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU men’s tennis team finished its third day of play Sunday, completing the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md.

Overall the Sooners went 6-2 in singles matches and 5-1 in doubles matches.

Junior Ryan Thomas, competing at No.1 singles, suffered a loss to Jarrett Chirico of St. John’s 6-3, 6-0.

Sophomore Sergey Avdeyev came out with a victory against St. John’s Patrick Adams, playing at No. 3 singles.  Sergey won the first set 6-4 but fell to Adams in the second losing 1-6.  Aydeyev came back in the third set to win the match 6-4.

Junior Federico Chavarria also came out with the win in No. 5 doubles over St. John’s Nick Tuxen 6-3, 6-0. Chavarria went undefeated in both singles and doubles matches for the weekend.  He and Thomas defeated Phil Bayliss and Chirico of St. John’s, 8-3, in No.1 doubles making them 3-0 for the weekend.

Adeyev and doubles partner for the Navy Invitational, Arkansas’ Dmitry Lebedev, won 8-0 to the St. John’s pair Matt Glascow and Matt Prusack.  Avyedev and Lebedev were 2-1 for the weekend.
The Sooners’ next matches will be held Sept. 22-24 at the Baylor invitational in Waco, Texas.
