Marek Velicka Advances in Consolation Bracket of ITA National Indoors

NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma sophomore Marek Velicka defeated Brian Hung of Michigan, 6-3, 6-2, in the consolation round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Indoor Championships on Friday afternoon.


After Thursday's loss to Ben Kohlloeffel of UCLA, Velicka rebounded in the first-round match of the consolation bracket by defeating Hung on his home court.


Velicka improves to 11-4 on the fall season, and will face Matias Silva of Boise State in the second round of the consolation bracket on Saturday.


The 2004 ITA Indoor Championships, the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament for Division I men, is hosted by the University of Michigan at its Varsity Tennis Center for the second straight year. The event showcases a 32-player singles field and a 16-team doubles bracket for collegiate players.
