NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team, who is searching for its first Big 12 Conference victory of the season, faces the No. 1 Cornhuskers of Nebraska when they arrive in Lincoln on Saturday. The 5-5 (0-2 Big 12) Sooners take to the road for their 10th away match in the last 11 contests as the Huskers (10-0, 3-0 Big 12) host their seventh match of the year. The Huskers' are riding a 17-match winning streak at Nebraska Coliseum where the Sooners haven't won in 11 years. The contest is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska Coliseum.
Nebraska owns a commanding 51-6 all-time series lead on the Sooners. OU's last win against NU was a three-game sweep of the Huskers in Norman in 1997. The Sooners have won only once on the Huskers' home court back in 1987 when OU emerged with a 3-1 victory.
In OU's most recent match, 23rd-ranked Texas A&M spoiled the team's home opener with a 15-4, 15-7, 15-9 victory in the OU Field House on Wednesday night. The loss was the squad's fifth-straight after beginning the season with the first 5-0 start in program history. The Sooners are averaging 15.12 kills a game and a .216 hitting percentage. Senior middle blocker Cathy Cook continues to lead the team offensively with 4.91 kills per game and a .383 attack percentage.
As a team, Nebraska is out-hitting its opponents by a 16.09 to 12.36 kills per game margin, while holding its opponents to a .113 hitting percentage. The Huskers have dropped only three games over the 10-match stretch. The Huskers boast eight players that are hitting for a .300 attack percentage or better, topped by freshman outside hitter/middle blocker Laura Pilakowski who is averaging 4.28 kills per game and a .393 hitting percentage. Four of Nebraska's 10 wins have come against top 25 opponents (No. 13 Colorado State, No. 22 Notre Dame, No. 16 Michigan State and No. 3 UCLA).
