NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma women's gymnast Kasie Tamayo was named the Big 12 Conference Gymnast of the Week it was announced by the league office today. Tamayo led the Sooners with a second-place finish in the all-around with a score of 39.750 against No. 2 Georgia last weekend. She also tied for first in the floor exercise by landing a career-high 9.950.

"This seems like Kasie's time to get hot," said OU head coach Steve Nunno. "She was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week around this time last year. I'd like to see her earn this award a few more times this year. It seems like she's really starting to get on fire."

Tamayo, a native of Sacramento, Calif., also finished fifth on the vault (9.825), uneven bars (9.850) and balance beam (9.750).

The Sooners will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 8, hosting No. 13 Florida. Meet time is set for 7 p.m. at the Lloyd Noble Center.
