Sooner Q&A with Rob McKenzie

NORMAN, Okla. - recently caught up with junior Rob McKenzie of the men's tennis team to see how school is going and to find out what he is doing to get ready for the fall portion of the tennis schedule.

McKenzie is a native of Melbourne, Australia, and is one of two juniors on this year's squad. will post a Q&A with each returning member of the men's tennis team leading up to the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying tournament this weekend in Tulsa, Okla.

McKenzie talks about the music rotation on his iPod, his favorite thing about Norman and what other sports he enjoys besides tennis:


SS:  What did you do doing the summer to sharpen your game? 
RM:  I ran stairs to improve my fitness and I really focused on improving my serve because that is a big part of my game.

SS:  What are you doing with any of your free time now that you are back in school?
RM:  I love to play golf and I also like to swim, when I have the time.
SS:  What personal goals do you have between now and the first official practice of the season?
RM:  I want to be physically ready to play in the heat here in Norman and the other places we travel.
SS:  What kind of workouts do you do to keep yourself in tennis shape?
RM:  I run, lift and play as much tennis as possible.
SS:  How have the first month of classes been going?
RM:  Class has been great.  It is very busy, but that is the way it is supposed to be.
SS:  What kind of music do you listen to?
RM:  Everything but rap and country.
SS:  What artists are in heavy rotation on your iPod?
RM:  Deepest Blue, Chicane and Enigma.
SS:  Who is the biggest tennis celebrity you have met?
RM:  Patrick Rafter.
SS:  If you weren't playing tennis, what would you play?
RM:  I am such a huge golf fan that I would probably be playing golf.
SS:  Do you watch any other sports?
RM:  I love sports and watch plenty of all sports.
SS:  What TV shows do you watch regularly?
RM:  When I have time I love to watch The Hills, Entourage and the Life of Ryan.
SS:  Why did you choose OU?
RM:  Because the history and tradition of the school and sports programs.
SS:  What is your favorite thing about Norman?  Oklahoma?
RM:  I love the lifestyle and peacefulness here in Norman and the fact that it is a little town.  I also love always being busy and living away from home.
