NORMAN, Okla. – The sixth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane for a second time this season with a 5-3 win on Wednesday evening. It marked the first series sweep for OU since the 2006 season. Oklahoma moved to 16-3 on the season, while the Golden Hurricane fell to 12-5.

The Sooners got a 2-for-2 performance from junior Lindsey Vandever. Vandever totaled two extra base hits – a two-run home run and an RBI double to left field. Vandever also drew one walk on the evening. Sophomore Wendy Trott recorded her second home run of the season in the fourth inning to put OU back on top and cap off a 2-for-3 night at the plate.

Tulsa scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. After Lauren Lindsay led off with a walk, Kailey Yarmer reached after being hit by pitch and Vanessa Vice walked to load the bases with one out. Lindsay and Yarmer scored on a single to right field by Brooke Smart.

The Sooners responded in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Amber Flores reached on a single to right field and scored Vandever’s fifth home run of the year.

The game remained tied until Trott hit her solo shot with one out in the fourth inning. Oklahoma added two runs in the sixth when Flores doubled down the left field line and scored on Vandever’s double. Vandever scored later in the inning on a caught stealing attempt to second base.

Flores finished the evening 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Senior Samantha Ricketts, freshman Katie Norris and sophomore Haley Anderson also added one hit each for OU. Smart went 3-for-4 for Tulsa with two runs driven in.

Freshman Allee Allen (6-1) got the win for Oklahoma. Allen struck out a season-high eight batters and walked three. Katie Lee (2-2) tallied the loss for Tulsa. She struck out two and walked one.

Oklahoma returns to action Friday evening, hosting eighth-ranked Tennessee at the OU Softball Complex. The opening game of The Preview presented by Worth begins at 6 p.m. CT. No. 16 Northwestern joins the action over the weekend as the double round robin event moves to ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
