NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team will be holding its second annual Red-White Intrasquad Scimmage on at 3 p.m. on Sun., Dec. 2, at the Sam Viersen Center. The squad opens its season at the Maui Invitational on Fri., Jan. 4, 2002, in Maui, Hawaii, and Sunday's meet will go a long way in determining who will compete for the Sooners. Head Coach Steve Nunno and assistant coaches Nilson Savage Jenny Rowland will use the meet to evaluate their student-athletes in a competitive setting.

OU was 21-11 a year ago, gaining the most wins in a season in school history. The Sooners reached the NCAA Championships for the first time in 11 season and with two wins at the national meet, finished 10th overall. Every major contributor from 2001 returns this season and hopes are high for a repeat showing at Nationals.

"Our team is coming off an exceptional season," said Nunno. "All of last year's team members have returned and we have added a number of talented freshmen and transfer students. Oklahoma is now poised to make a stand as a national power and we're ready to begin our climb to the top."

After competing in Hawaii, OU will return to action in Norman on Sun., Jan. 20, when perennial Big Ten power Ohio State visits the Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners will also host Florida, Iowa State, Arizona and Texas Woman's in 2002.
