NORMAN, Okla. – The 31st-ranked University of Oklahoma women’s tennis team heads to Tulsa, Okla., to face No. 20 Tulsa on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 5 p.m., at TU’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Oklahoma (4-1) is coming off a 4-1 win over Utah in the consolation match of the UCLA bracket of the 2012 ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Sooners lost their first match of the season to St. Mary’s, 4-3, on opening day of the dual tournament in Los Angeles.
“We have had some very interesting matches with Tulsa the past few years and I think it will be another intriguing matchup this year,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “Both teams this year have some fresh faces in their lower positions and it may just come down to which of the new players handle the moment the best.”
The Sooners have won the doubles point in four of their five matches while OU’s 22nd-ranked pair, Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie, is undefeated at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Tulsa (3-1) enters Saturday's match after its first and only loss of the season to No. 19 Tennessee, 4-0. The Golden Hurricane shut out both UALR and ORU, 7-0, on Jan. 15 and defeated No. 33 N.C. State on Jan. 27, in Knoxville, Tenn., during ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
OU leads the all-time series with Tulsa, 26-5, but lost the last meeting of the two programs, 7-0, on March 30, 2011 in Norman.
