NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's soccer team showed tremendous offensive balance as five different Sooners tallied goals in a 5-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana Saturday night in front of 438 fans at the OU Soccer Complex. The Sooners won their third straight game to move to 6-1 on the season while the Lions fell to 2-2.
"Just like last night, we had some excellent opportunities to score. But in this game, we were able to finish off those plays," said Oklahoma Head Coach Randy Evans. "Our record and the way we've played so far this year definitely give us confidence going into conference play next weekend."
The Sooners got going early when sophomore Logan Womack made several moves down the middle of field before shooting the ball into the net at the 15:46 mark. The goal was Womack's seventh in as many games this year. Just before halftime, in the 44th minute, redshirt freshman Erin Young made it 2-0 in favor of OU after receiving a pass off a free kick from senior Jonette Coquat. Young's goal was the first of her Sooner career.
The Sooners scored again just over three minutes into the second half, at 48:07, when junior Krissy Dawson tallied her first OU goal. Wing raced the ball down the left side before crossing to Dawson. The goal made it Oklahoma and the rout was on. Coquat and sophomore Heidi Martinson finished Oklahoma's scoring with the fourth and fifth goals of the night.
Freshman Catherine Wade and junior Jana Cunningham combined on the shutuout as Oklahoma tallied a season-high 36 shots and limited the Lions to four. The shutout was OU's sixth in seven games and the Sooners have now outscored their opponents, 20-1, on the year.
The Sooners begin the Big 12 portion of their schedule next Friday at 4 p.m. against Kansas in Lawrence.
