LINCOLN, Neb. - The 14th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team defeated Nebraska 5-0 Saturday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium. The Sooners (35-10, 9-3) recorded six hits and got a complete game from freshman starter Keilani Ricketts. The Huskers fell to 27-21 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
After a scoreless first inning, Oklahoma loaded the bases with one out in the top of the second. Lindsey Vandever reached after being hit by a pitch and a Haley Nix single down the right field line advanced Vandever to third. After Nix stole second, Ricketts walked to load the bases for Katie Norris.
Norris delivered a single to left field to score Vandever and Nix. After a Nebraska pitching change, Dani Dobbs was hit by a pitch to reload the bases before the inning ended.
Nix reached on a double in the fourth and scored on Ricketts' fourth home run of the season to push the Oklahoma lead to 4-0. Oklahoma added a run in the top of the fifth when Amber Flores hit her 12th home run of the season.
Nix ended the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Norris went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Ricketts and Flores' only hits of the afternoon were home runs.
Ricketts threw her ninth shutout of the season and 19th complete game. She allowed two hits and one walk while striking out six.
