Kim Remains in Top 10 at Hall of Fame

HUMBLE, TexasThe University of Oklahoma men’s golf team is in eighth place after two rounds at the Hall of Fame Invitational.

The Sooners followed their 4-over-par 292 with a 293 today and slipped from fourth as Oklahoma State and UNLV ran away on day two with rounds of 270 and 276, respectively.

Oklahoma State leads the tournament at 14 under.

Sophomore Anthony Kim finished day two in a tie for ninth after an even round. The La Quinta, Calif., native trails tournament leader Ryan Moore of UNLV by five strokes.

Kim’s day started with a birdie on 1, but bogeys on 3 and 15 cost him a chance to move up the leaderboard.

Sophomore Nick Sheedy had the Sooners’ best day as he moved 21 spots from a 52nd-place start to a tie for 31st. Sheedy finished the day at even par after shooting the best round of his collegiate career (70).

The Burlington, Iowa, native overcame a bogey on 5 with four birdieson 13, 15, 18 and 1on his final nine holes. Sheedy also bogeyed the 16th, a hole that has proved to be the toughest on the course.

Freshman Phillip Bryan concluded his day with a 2-over 74. The Mustang, Okla., native lies one stroke behind Sheedy in a tie for 37th.

Bryan’s second round started with a birdie on 2 but turned sour two holes later with a double bogey on 4. He picked up a quick birdie on the par-3 fifth and finished his round with another birdie on 1.

Freshman Jordi Garca and junior Justin Fraley completed the Sooners lineup.

Garca had a rough outing on day two, shooting an 81. The Spaniard fell from his 19th-place start into a tie for 77th at 10 over for the tournament.

Fraley improved on day two, following his first-round 78 with a 77 in the second. The Rowlett, Texas, native is one stroke behind Garca in 82nd.

Playing as an individual, Shawn LaFontaine shot a 74 for the second consecutive round.  The Cobourg, Ontario, native was two under before a triple bogey on 4 spoiled his day. The junior, however, finished impressively with two birdies on 15 and 16.

The final round begins Sunday, March 20, at 7:30 a.m. with a Shotgun start.
