Lathan, 4x200 Relay Advance at Penn

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Oklahoma men's track and field team competed at the Penn Relays for the first time in 15 years on Friday and had a relay and individual advance to the championship finals of their respective events.

The men's 4x200-meter relay team of Eric Cray, Jamel Wood, Evan Pierson and Marcus Anderson ran one minute, 24.66 seconds to finish fifth overall and advance to Saturday's championship final at 1:45 p.m. CT. Tre Lathan ran the eighth fastest time in the men's 110-meter hurdles preliminaries, crossing the line in 13.96 seconds. Lathan runs in the college men's championship final on Saturday at 2:20 p.m. CT.

The men's distance medley relay team took eighth in the Championship of America section. Riley Masters, Wood, Patrick Casey and Eric Harsyn ran 9:45.45. Evan Pierson just missed advancing to Saturday's final in the men's 100-meter dash as he finished 10th in 10.81 seconds.

The Sooners also ran the men's 4x100-meter relay as Anderson, Cray, Ethan Baker and Pierson won the first heat of the event but did not advance to the finals.

Tia Brooks continued to improve her mark in the shot put. Brooks won the event at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday, extending her program record to 60 feet, seven and a quarter inches on her final attempt. The mark set a Drake Relays record and is the best in the NCAA this year. She meets the Olympic A standard with the throw and defended her 2011 title at the meet.

Brittany Borman also won her event at Drake, throwing 179-0 on her first attempt in the women's javelin. Borman won by just more than 13 feet over the next closest competitor.

Oklahoma returns to action Saturday at the Penn Relays with the Championship of America college men's 4xmile relay at 12:25 p.m. CT. Action at the Drake Relays resumes at 9 a.m. CT with the women's hammer throw.
