Norman, Okla. - University of Oklahoma head men's gymnastics coach Mark Williams is one of three coaches that have been named to the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Rules Committee. The Sooner coach will assume his role Sept. 1.

The committee, which is on the floor for interpretations during the national championship meet, holds formal meetings twice each year and, according to Williams, makes at least some adjustment to the rules, "every year."

Williams was named the national coach of the year for 2002 after leading Oklahoma to the national championship. He served 12 years as an assistant coach at OU before moving to the top position in 2000.

New committee rules members must apply for the position. Sitting committee members, in consultation with the NCAA, decide which new members will be accepted.
