Sooners Ready for Two-Match Weekend

NORMAN, Okla. The No. 32 Oklahoma men’s tennis team prepares for a two-match weekend as it hosts No. 27 Texas A&M Friday, April 13 and rival No. 13 Texas Sunday, April 15 at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners are 16-4 on the season and 0-1 in Big 12 play. OU is led by No. 58 freshman Vaclav Kucera. The Sooners have had an impressive season reaching their highest ranking in fifteen years. If OU wins both matches this weekend, the victory over Texas will be Head Coach Paul Lockwood’s 300th victory.

The Aggies are (14-7, 1-2) 1-4 on the road this season. Junior Jerry Makowski is A&M’s standout player and was ranked No. 67 in most recent ITA ranking. The Aggies also boast one ranked doubles tandem of Bryan Wooten and Mike Beatty who are ranked No. 56, respectively.

Texas is 14-5 on the season and is undefeated in Big 12 play (2-0). The Longhorns have won their last six contests. Their last loss came to No. 19 Pepperdine on March 15. Texas claims one top-25 (No.17) doubles pair of Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala.

The Sooners and the Aggies will square off at 6 p.m. Friday. The Sunday match against Texas will begin at noon. Live scoring of the matches will be available at in addition to a recap following the conclusion of play.
