NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team carded a 626 (+50) on Monday for the first two rounds of the 54-hole Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif.  The Sooners stand in 11th place at the 16-team tournament at the 6,223-yard, par-72 Almaden Country Club.
The teams experienced sun, rain, high winds and hail at times during the first 36 holes of competition.  Host team San Jose State fired rounds of 295 and 300 to lead the tournament.  UC Davis recorded a 601 to stand in second, one shot ahead of third-place California.
"It was a tough day for the Sooners," OU head coach Veronique Drouin said.  "It seems like everyone was struggling.  At the same time, when other teams were making pars, we were making bogeys.  We have to bounce back with a good round tomorrow like I know we are capable of doing"
Pacing the Sooners on day one was Brooke Collins.  The sophomore fired rounds of 77 and 78 to end Monday at 11-over to stand tied for 33rd.  Junior Ellen Mueller followed one stroke behind OU's leader with rounds of 76 and 80 for the day.  Mueller tied for 38th with 12-over par 72.
Freshman Taylor Schmidt recorded rounds of 78 and 79 to finish the day 13-over for 44th place.  Brooke Collins' sister, senior Chelsey Collins, recorded rounds of 78 and 80 to finish tied for 51st, while classmate Andrea Sellmeyer shot a 78 and 86 to finish tied for 69th.
The final round of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational will commence at 10 a.m. CST on Tuesday.  Follow live scoring of tournament action at www.golfstat.com.
