NORMAN, Okla. - The 23rd-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a score of 288 on the final round to win the 2000 Windon Memorial Classic in Lake Forest, Ill. It was the first win of the season for the Sooners and their first tournament victory since claiming the Ridges Intercollegiate last season. OU finished seven strokes ahead of second-place USC who is ranked No. 22 in the country. The Sooners also finished ahead of several higher-ranked teams, including 10th-ranked Northwestern by 20 strokes, 17th-ranked North Florida by 23 strokes and 20th-ranked Kent State by 26 strokes.

"I was extremely proud of our players today and the effort they put forth," said first-year OU Head Coach Jim Ragan. "The playing conditions were difficult but they hung in there and it paid off."

Individually for the Sooners, junior Cody Freeman (72-69-73=214) finished tied for second place in his first start of the season. It was the second time Freeman finished in second after doing so in the NCAA Central Regional last season. Freeman was only one shot off the lead and finished one shot ahead of defending national champion Luke Donald of Northwestern.

Tied with Donald was OU sophomore Matt Cohn (76-69-70=215), who fired the lowest round for OU today and finished tied for fourth just one shot behind Freeman. It was Cohn's second top-five finish of the season for OU and it marked the third-straight time he placed in the top 20. Freshman Martin Flores (74-76-71=221) carded the second-lowest score for OU in the final round to finish tied for 15th. Flores has now finished in the top 20 in three straight tournaments.

Senior Kelsey Cline (77-72-74=223) and junior J.D. Robertson (77-71-78=226) rounded out the scorers for the Sooners, who will travel to Dallas, Texas, next week to compete in the annual Red River Tournament on Oct. 9-10.
