NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's basketball team, who enters preseason as one of the top five teams in the nation, invites you to its first open practice of the 2001-02 season on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Howard McCasland OU Field House at 3 p.m.

Be the first to pick up a free schedule card and have your poster signed by this year's Sooners. Head Coach Sherri Coale will introduce the team and coaching staff, before an intrasquad scrimmage. The day will conclude with a team autograph session.

The Women's Basketball Journal has OU ranked No. 3, while Basketball News have the Sooners No. 4 in its preseason poll. Oklahoma has been ranked among the top four in six preseason publications for women's basketball, including No. 1 by Lindy's.

The Sooners look to repeated their Big 12 title and participate in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year. OU's goal is to make a serious run toward its first national title. Oklahoma returns 11 letterwinners and four starters, including All-Americans Stacey Dales and LaNeishea Caufield plus All-Big 12 second teamer Caton Hill. This trio make up 54.6 percent of the team's points and 45.1 percent of OU's rebounds. In all, the Sooners return 76 percent of its points and rebounds. Joining this year's team are four freshmen and one transfer.

Oklahoma tips off the 2001-02 season with a pair of exhibition games on Nov. 1 against Southern Nazarene and Nov. 6 versus Oklahoma Christian. Both games will be played at the OU Field House. The Sooners will open the season against Purdue, last year's national runner-up, as one of four teams participating in the prestigious State Farm's Tip-Off Classic in Durham, N.C., on Nov. 11.
