Head Coach Kelvin Sampson
On the game:
"I just thought we were very solid today. We had already played Baylor and had an idea of what to prepare for. We are shooting the ball better and a lot of guys are playing with confidence right now. We put 40 minutes together. For 40 minutes today we were about as sharp as we could be."
On having a week off before today's game:
"We made pretty good use of the week off. The first thing we did was give the players some time off. We worked on the half court offense Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in practice. It is always good to work on things in practice and see them carry over into games."
On sophomore Johnnie Gilbert:
"Johnnie is a good player. He had eight points and five rebounds today. He always defends, he always rebounds and he always works hard. This is the first time we have had so many guys playing well on the same day."
"I am sure they will be heavily favored. They are the No. 3 ranked team in the nation and they are playing at home. We have to go down to Austin and represent the Sooners."
Senior Guard Quannas White
On Oklahoma's defensive performance:
"We played great defense and that is what we focused on this week in practice. Kansas State did a great job against us last week and they are a good team but we just felt like we let up against them defensively. So we focused on our defense in practice and I think it really showed today."
On carrying intensity over into the second half:
"I think it is hard to keep up the intensity because you need great focus. I think all of the guys did a great job of maintaining their focus and that is why we won by the large margin."
Freshman Guard De'Angelo Alexander
On the game:
"We tried to take them off the three-point line because we knew that was one of their strengths. We wanted to come in and hold this team under 50 points because we felt like our defense had slipped in the last few games."
On facing Texas on Big Monday:
"A game like this builds our confidence and definitely gives us momentum going into Texas."
Baylor Head Coach Dave Bliss
On the game:
"You know, OU showed what a terrific basketball team they are today. They shot the ball extremely well. We got behind and tried to do some things we are not ready to do. I think unfortunately, we have had a bunch of games like that. I thought this was the first game where we had our heads down. OU deserves all the credit."
"If they make the shots they are going to do what they did today. If they miss the shots we have a chance. Part of what you do offensively generates from the defense. It is hard to get your defense going when you are taking the ball out of the net. They did a good job containing Lawrence Roberts and he got a little frustrated. They made all the big shots and their defense was terrific. It is hard to play any better than they did today. They were a Final Four team last year and certainly looked like it today."
On being honored with the 1979 OU team prior to the game:
"I am thrilled that that team got honored. It seemed like just yesterday that we played Kansas State for Oklahoma's first Big 8 title. OU is a special place for the Blisses. My wife is a Boomer Sooner and our son was born in Norman. I wish my team would've played the way they were capable of playing, it kind of put a damper on today."
