Oak Tree and OU to Host Inaugural Oklahoma Intercollegiate
October 03, 2005

NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma men’s golf coach Jim Ragan announced today that OU will serve as host for the First Annual Oklahoma Intercollegiate at Oak Tree Golf Club.

The inaugural event will be conducted October 15-17, 2006.

Oak Tree Golf Club has an outstanding history of hosting championship events. Completed in 1976, the course has hosted both major professional and amateur championships. The United States Golf Association Amateur Championship was held at Oak Tree in 1984, and in 1988 the club was awarded the PGA Championship, one of the four major events in professional golf.

In keeping with that championship tradition, Oak Tree was also chosen as the site of the 2006 Senior PGA Championship.

“Oak Tree Golf Club is proud that the University of Oklahoma has selected us to be the host site of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Tournament,” Oak Tree Director of Golf Steve Kimmel said. “We are looking forward to a very strong field and know that every player will get to see one of the greatest Pete Dye courses ever designed.”

Oak Tree Golf Club underwent extensive green renovations in 2002 and has also been lengthened to over 7,400 yards to uphold its reputation as one of the most challenging tests of golf ever built.

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity the University of Oklahoma has to host a college tournament at Oak Tree Golf Club,” OU head coach Jim Ragan said. “Usually venues such as this are untouchable as far as college events are concerned. There is obviously a passion for amateur as well as professional golf at the club. I could not imagine a better setting or test for the young, aspiring players in college golf than Oak Tree Golf Club.”
