NORMAN, Okla. Due to inclement weather Wednesday, the Oklahoma men’s tennis team had to move its match against Tulsa to Thursday, April 7. The two Region V opponents will face off against each other at 2 p.m. inside the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. Admission is free!
No. 37 Tulsa brings an overall record of 14-8 to the courts while No. 43 Oklahoma sits at 14-3 and 5-0 against regional foes. OU has won 27 of 30 regional singles matches and 11 of 15 doubles matches.
OU owns a 27-10 all-time regular season series record against the Golden Hurricane but the two teams have not met since the 2000 season when they split the two-match series.
TU has won three in a row , but has gone 6-6 since February with 7-0 losses to No. 15 Texas A&M and No. 27 Texas. Tulsa is coming off a 4-3 victory over 39th-ranked TCU last weekend. The Golden Hurricane is 5-6 against ranked opponents while OU is 3-3.
Out in front for Oklahoma is sophomore Marek Velicka. Velicka, who's currently ranked 43th in the nation, won the singles championship title in the ITA Region V Tournament last fall in Tulsa. Velicka owns a stellar 13-4 record including upset victories over Texas A&M’s 14th-ranked Jerry Makowski and 25th-ranked Callum Beale of Texas.
