IRVING, Texas -- Oklahoma’s Aaryn Ellenberg earned the season’s final Big 12 Freshman of the Week honor, the conference office announced Sunday.

It was the fourth time Ellenberg has been named freshman of the week.

Ellenberg paced Oklahoma in its two games last week, scoring 23 points in a victory over Oklahoma State on March 2 and 16 in defeat at Texas Tech on March 5.

Ellenberg shot 50 percent from the field against the Cowgirls, hitting 8-of-16 shots, including a 5-of-10 3-point performance. The guard added three assists and a steal as OU defeated its in-state rival for the eighth straight time and 24th in the last 25 meetings.

Against Texas Tech, Ellenberg kept Oklahoma in the game as its upperclassmen struggled to hit shots. The freshman scored a game-high 16 points, including 14 in the first half when she made four of six 3-point attempts. Ellenberg also matched a personal best with seven rebounds to go with two assists to just one turnover in 40 minutes on the court.

The freshman is just three 3-pointers shy of matching OU’s single-season record of 88 made by Erin Higgins in the 2005-06 season.

Baylor’s Brittney Griner and Kansas State’s Brittany Chambers shared player of the week honors.

Oklahoma next plays in the second round of the Big 12 Championship Wednesday, March 9, at approximately 7:30 p.m.  OU will face the winner of a first-round game between sixth-seeded Texas Tech and 11th-seeded Oklahoma State.
