NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team turned in a two-round 609 (+25) at the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational on Saturday at the par-73, 6,125-yard University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.  The Sooners shot a first-round 306 (+14) and a second-round 303 (+11) to stand tied for 16th place out of 18 teams.

"We started off really well, but struggled down the stretch in both rounds today," first-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin said.  "There is no doubt in my mind that we have a lot of potential on this team."

Ellen Mueller stands in a tie for eighth place out of 97 golfers after Saturday’s 36 holes.  The junior carded a 1-under 72 in each round, recording four birdies on the first 18 and two on the second en route to a 144 (-2) total.  Mueller is five strokes back of Oregon’s Kendra Little, the tournament leader.

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Taylor Schmidt shot a 78 (+5) and 76 (+3) for the first and second rounds, respectively, to stand tied for 60th place.  Sophomore Brooke Collins carded rounds of 78 (+5) and 76 (+3) to finish the day tied for 66th place.

Senior Ryanne Elmer turned in a first-round 78 (+5) and followed with a 79 (+6) in the second for 79th place, while classmate Andrea Sellmeyer recorded an 81 (+8) and a 78 (+5) for 88th place.

Pepperdine leads the tournament after firing a two-round 575 (-9), and is followed in the top five by New Mexico (580), TCU (582), UNLV (583) and Oregon (590).  Eleven teams in the event are ranked in Golfweek’s top 55.

"(Assistant coach) Jennie (Arseneault) and I are still in the process of learning everyone's strengths and weaknesses," Drouin said.  "We should see some improvements as the year goes on."

The final round of the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational will commence Sunday at 9:30 a.m. CT.  Live stats can be followed at www.golfstat.com
