2003 NCAA Women's Basketball First and Second Rounds
Lloyd Noble Center - Norman, Okla.
Host: University of Oklahoma

Oklahoma 61, George Washington 71

Head Coach Sherri Coale
"You know as good as George Washington was tonight, they've been great down the stretch, shows that they are a great team and accustomed to winning. As good as they were, I really felt like we beat ourselves. Points off turnovers has really been an Achilles heel all season for us. It's something we have to improve upon before next year. I don't think any of us need to lose sight of the fact of how special it is to be one of the 64 teams still playing this weekend. For these guys and what they've had to deal with this year, I don't know that I could be more proud of them."

On OU's free throw shooting.
"We've not been a particularly poor free throw shooting team. Certain players have struggled from there a bit. Beky (Preston) has had some problems with success there, but that's something that she will improve on dramatically in the off-season. You have to look at who was going to the free throw line sometimes. That turns out to be a significant difference in the game when they shoot 90 percent from there and we shoot 58 percent."

Dionnah Jackson (Sophomore, Guard)

On the defense:
"I think whenever we get aggressive in our defense we can make their offense rush and make turnovers. We have to come back down and produce and hit shots."

On Oklahoma's ability to come back in games:
"In the past, we have been known to come back and hit big shots. I think this time we were just down too far. If you hit a shot you have to go down defensively and get a stop. We let them get some threes off. You just can't do that, especially in the NCAA Tournament. Everybody is good, nobody is average."

Maria Villarroel (Junior, Guard)

On Oklahoma's defense:
"If we press them and if we trap like we are supposed to, we can get easy steals and go to the basket."

On looking forward to next season:
"When we use our speed we can hit shots and hit threes. I don't think the last five minutes we did that. I'm proud of this season. It was very difficult for us but we are going to get better for next year."
