OU Men's Golfers Finish 10th At Puerto Rico Classic

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team shot a final-round score of 297 on the River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club (par-72, 6,945 yards) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to finish in 10th place Tuesday at the Puerto Rico Classic. The Sooners, who are ranked 10th in the latest Precept/GCAA Poll, concluded the tournament with a combined team score of 890 (+26) finishing three strokes ahead of No. 11 Georgia and four strokes in front of Big 12 rival and No. 6 Texas. Top-ranked and defending tournament champion Georgia Tech won the team championship finishing with a third-round 279 for a total of 829 (-35). The Yellow Jackets finished with a 15-shot advantage over their closest competitor, No. 3 Clemson.

Junior John Kidwell (Dallas, Texas) continued his stellar play leading the Sooners for the fifth-straight round this spring and the third-straight tournament this season. Kidwell fired a final-round 71 to tie for 11th overall with a total of 214 (-2). It was the fifth top-15 finish of his career at OU.

Sophomore Doug Manor (Garland, Texas) tied his lowest round of this season with a third-round 73 to tie for 61st overall. Sophomore Martin Flores (Mansfield, Texas) posted a final-round 76 for a total of 221 (+5). Flores finished tied with six other golfers for 28th.

Senior Cody Freeman (Arnett, Okla.) shot a 77 to tie for 46th while sophomore Blake Martin (Stigler, Okla.) posted a final-round 78 placing him tied for 64th.

The Sooners have a month to prepare for their next tournament at the Cleveland Golf/Morris Williams on March 25-26 in Austin, Texas, at the Austin County Club.
