Sooners in 10th at "Mo" Morial

NORMAN, Okla.-- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team is in 10th place after 18 holes of play in the 16-team "Mo" Morial Invitational in College Station, Texas. The Sooners shot a first-round 322 (+34) on the par-72, 6,225-yard Traditions Golf Club Course and are 19 strokes behind leader Arizona State.

Junior Heather Wright leads OU after shooting a first-round 75 (+3), good for a seventh-place tie. She returns after turning in a top-20 finish (T15) at the spring opener, the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, Feb. 23- Feb. 25.

"I'm very proud of Heather's performance today," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "She did a terrific job."

Freshman Chelsey Collins carded an 81 (+9) and is in a tie for 44th place while senior Jaclyn Stelzer and junior Kelly Jacques each shot 11-over par (83) and are tied in 56th place. Senior Megan Goodwin, who turned in a first-round 84 (+12), is in a 65th-place tie. Competing individually, redshirt freshman Ryanne Elmer shot an 86 and is in a tie for 78th.

"We had a rough day today," Ludvigson said. "We're disappointed about our performance but we're determined and looking forward to tomorrow."

The Sooners return to the links for second-round action of the 54-hole tournament at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The final 18 holes will be played Sunday.
