MORGANTOWN, W.V. -- The University of Oklahoma soccer team was unable to capitalize on a solid defensive effort in the opening 45 minutes of play as No. 23 West Virginia struck late in the second half to secure a 2-0 victory in Big 12 Conference action Thursday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, W. Va.

The loss to the Big 12-leading Mountaineers (10-3-4, 6-2-3) snapped a two-match winning streak for the Sooners (6-8-4, 2-3-2).

West Virginia took 10 shots in the first half but only three were on goal and none found the back of the net. OU senior goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire tallied three saves to help keep the match at a scoreless tie at the break.

The West Virginia defense was equally stingy, though, limiting OU to five shots the entire match and keeping the Sooners in check until Amanda Hill broke the deadlock for the Mountaineers with a goal off a rebound from eight yards out in the 73rd minute.

WVU tacked on an insurance goal eight minutes later when Kate Schwindel scored from 26 yards away.

OU senior Renae Cuellar, the reigning Disney Soccer/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, posted three shots on goal in the loss.

Oklahoma continues to jockey for Big 12 tournament seeding as it closes the 2012 regular season at Iowa State on Friday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.
