NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma men's golf coach Jim Ragan has been named Sun Mountain Sports 2001 Division I Coach of the Year for district five by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). A GCAA appointed committee made up of collegiate coaches reviewed each district in Divisions I, II and III and selected a district coach of the year in each division.

In only his first season at the helm of the Sooners, Ragan guided OU to one of the most successful postseason runs in its men's golf history. Oklahoma finished atop the leader board at the 2001 NCAA Central Regional and the Sooners advanced to the third and fourth rounds of the NCAA National Championships for the first time since 1993. OU's nine top-five finishes last year were the most for any OU men's golf team since 1995.

District Coaches of the Year will be recognized at the GCAA National Awards Reception and Dinner. The awards dinner will be held at the GCAA National Convention in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday, January 23.

The Oklahoma men's golf team will continue its 2001-02 campaign in Waikoloa, Hawaii, at the Big Island Invitational on Feb. 13-15.
