San Diego, Calif. - The OU women's soccer team lost 2-0 on Friday afternoon in a non-conference contest against the 30th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs in San Diego, Calif. The Sooners allowed a goal three minutes into the game which set the tone. Oklahoma only managed three shots while San Diego State recorded 14.

"The early goal was probably the key to the game," said OU head coach Randy Evans. "We were pretty shaky in the first 15 minutes of the game. We settled down after that and pretty much controlled the final 15 minutes of the half.

"We got a lot better play in the second half, but we allowed a goal with nine minutes left when we were pushing forward. They are a very talented team and are ranked high for good reason. San Diego State is a lot bigger than us. As highly ranked as they are, we were in position to win with 15 minutes remaining in the game."

Forwards Heather Martinelli and Jonette Coquat led OU on the offensive side of the field, recording one shot on goal apiece. Goalkeepers Ayn Toppin and Jana Cunningham played one half each and recorded three and four saves, respectively.

"I thought that Shannon Wing had a great game today," said Evans. "She brought a lot of energy to the field. Our entire defense had a great second half. We also received real good play from outside midfielders Brianne Strothers, Kate Rusley and Jennifer Enos."

The Sooners play next at San Diego on Sunday. The Toreros return five starters from a team that went 12-6-2 last year.
