LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Oklahoma soccer team played in its third double overtime in the last four outings and suffered a 2-1 defeat as host UNLV recorded the golden goal in the 108th minute.

The Rebels jumped on top first in the 23rd minute but OU received the an equalizing goal from sophomore Molly Richey. Less than eight minutes after UNLV jumped on top, Emily Bowman set up Richey's first career goal with her second assist of the year on the free kick.

"We began the game in a positive fashion and I felt we were very unfortunate to go behind," said OU Head Coach Matt Potter. "To respond with a goal straight from the training ground speaks to our ability to be dangerous on set pieces. A great service from Emily and a wonderfully timed run and finish from Molly."

The 1-1 tie went all the way into double overtime, where OU is now 0-2-1 in extra time in 2012. The loss dropped the Sooners to 2-2-1 on the season while UNLV improved to 2-2-1. The Rebels have played in one other overtime game this season, a 0-0 tie last Friday against South Dakota State.

The Sooners did not play in an overtime game all of last season and now have three under their belts in 2012. OU's last win in overtime came on Nov. 5, 2010 against Texas A&M in the Big 12 Championship.

"Our growing pains are clear for all to see and to not push on and perform in the manner we are capable is something we have to address together," added Potter. "It was a tough loss, but you have to give credit to UNLV and its staff.  We now have to recover and get ready for a difficult game against a winning NAU team.  I'm confident our team will respond in a manner fitting its potential."

OU remains on the Las Vegas campus to take on Northern Arizona on Sept. 2 at 12:30 p.m. in the Rebel Classic. The Sooners topped the Lumberjacks 3-0 on the road in 2001 in the only other meeting in the series.

The Lumberjacks opened the Rebel Classic earlier Friday with a 2-0 win over Florida Atlantic. The win halted a three-game losing streak for Northern Arizona (1-3).
