No. 21 OU Closes Regular Season at Home

NORMAN, Okla. - The 21st-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team closes out the regular season Friday, April 23 at 6 p.m., when they host No. 40 Nebraska for senior day at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners (15-6, 1-4) look to rebound at home after suffering two disappointing , 5-2, losses to then-No. 11 Baylor and 16th-ranked Texas Tech last weekend. Roddick's squad is now 7-2 at home, where the Sooners have downed five opponents ranked in the ITA top 62.  

Oklahoma is currently sixth in the Big 12 standings. With a win over Nebraska the Sooners can claim the No. 5 seed at the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas, from April 30-May 2.

On the year, OU has defeated 10 teams ranked in the ITA top-69, while each of the Sooners' losses have come against teams ranked in the ITA top 16. In addition, the Sooners have defeated San Diego State (No. 62) and OSU (No. 44) twice this season.

Oklahoma is led by a trio of ranked individuals including; 26th-ranked senior Andrei Daescu, No. 70 Costin Paval (15-4) and No. 71 Ionut Beleleu (12-7).

In doubles, OU has two ranked tandems in No. 17 Daescu and Paval (9-5) and No. 59 Daescu and Beleleu. Daescu and Paval have won four of their last five and have defeated three pairs ranked in the top-30 and five total in the top 62. In addition, freshman Lawrence Formentera and senior Blake Boswell boast a team best 10-5 record and have won six of their last nine matches at the No. 3 spot.

The Cornhuskers (13-9, 1-3) are led by 74th-ranked Calin Paar and No. 77 Christopher Aumueller. Nebraska has one ranked doubles pair in Paar and Benedikt Lindheim, No. 64.

Last season the Sooners defeated Nebraska, 4-3, in Lincoln and boast an overall record of 53-9 against Nebraska.

At the conclusion of Friday's match Oklahoma will honor seniors Andrei Daescu, a four year starter, and Blake Boswell.
